We've added some more excellent articles to our MuskyU page. Including articles on the importance of good Catch and Release methods, Delayed Mortality due to improper methods and some surprising mortality rates in Catch and Release fishing. We've also got a copy of what is probably the definitive article comparing the damage of vertical vs. horizontal holds. Chapter 57 of Muskies Inc. is a non-profit organization that was started in May of 2007 in the State of Washington. The goals of the chapter are to promote Muskie Fishing in the great Northwest, provide information and services to Muskie Fishermen, promote Catch, Photo and Release where it's appropriate, and provide information to other groups about the benefits of having Muskies in Northwest lakes, as well as the proper way to handle a Muskie if one is caught. Chapter meetings are on the third Thursday each month at Round Table Pizza in Federal Way, WA. 34410 16th Ave S. in the Walmart parking lot, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. Click on the address for a map.A Message Board/Forum specifically related to Muskie fishing in Washington is available at WashingtonLakes.com. The national organization, Muskies, Inc., is an active, service-oriented, non-profit organization for men, women and children with the single focus of improving the sport of Muskie fishing everywhere the fish are found. Founded in 1966 by Gil Hamm, the original group of thirteen avid Muskie fisherman concentrated on continual improvement of the Muskie resource through rearing and stocking efforts and sound conservation practices. State departments of natural resources have realized the value of stocking Muskies. Thirty-seven of the lower forty-eight states currently have active Muskie stocking programs. Muskies, Inc. has expanded to over 7,500 members and 53 independent local chapters throughout the country. Muskies, Inc. has become a national voice of the protection of the Muskie species. Muskies, Inc. is widely recognized as the first organized group of sports anglers to espouse the "Catch and Release" practice now embraced by many conservation minded groups throughout North America. Today the National Organization focuses on three critical areas: Youth, Fisheries, and Research. Safety is a priority to Muskies, Inc. Starting in 2008 Required Boaters Safety Education Cards are being phased in in Washington State. The State Parks Department has a FAQ about the cards including how to get one. The cards are valid in Canada and all States that require them. We encourage our members to get a card. |
